In November 2021, TLC star Christine said that she was separating from Kody after more than 25 years of “spiritual marriage.”

Kody, 53, has a plural marriage with his legal wife Robyn, 43, and two other spiritual wives, Meri, 51, and Janelle, 53.

Christine, 51, and Kody’s split has been a major storyline on Sister Wives season 17. During the premiere on September 11, Christine told Kody of her plans to move back to Utah from Flagstaff, Arizona, where the families reside.

On the November 6 episode of Sister Wives, it was time for Christine to break the news of her move to the other wives, and she called Kody, Meri, Robyn and Janelle over to her house.

After sharing that she had sold her house and was moving to Utah, Christine received a mixed response.

In her confessional interview, Meri told the cameras that she felt “angry” and “a little betrayed,” but could understand “where she’s coming from.”

“I also know that anger is a secondary emotion. I’m hurt. I’m hurt that she doesn’t see value enough in our family,” Meri said.

Janelle was more supportive, while Robyn told the cameras: “It felt like I just got pushed out of an airplane, and I wasn’t ready.”

Kody, who already knew Christine was moving, also had his say, commenting: “It’s just one of those things where it’s like there’s nothing I can do here. I’m not going to express my undying love for her, like, ‘Please come back.’ I don’t even like her right now.”

Explaining her decision to leave, Christine told Kody and the other wives that her own children had noticed a shift in her relationship and had questions about her “loveless marriage” with her estranged husband.

Kody then said that Janelle’s daughter, Maddie, had told him Christine had been thinking about leaving for a while, to which Christine responded: “When you hear things through the grapevine, there’s a whole other conversation you don’t get. You should maybe address the source.”

Speaking about her six children with Kody, Christine added: “They saw how separate we’ve been in Flagstaff. They also saw that Kody and I have been struggling for a long time.”

“The kids were like, ‘It looked like in Vegas that you and dad weren’t very close anymore,’” Christine said, referring to the time when the families used to live in Las Vegas, Nevada.

It was this comment about Vegas that caused Robyn to get heated and accuse Christine of lying.

“I remember the conversations. I remember what was going on. I remember you guys having fun dates and hearing about that and seeing your guys’ relationship. So, either you guys were faking it in front of me… I don’t know,” Robyn said, challenging Christine’s timeline.

Robyn was then seen praising herself for sticking up for Kody, but, in her own interview, Janelle backed up Christine’s statement. She said she had been aware of Christine and Kody’s issues for a long time and that Robyn and Kody were trying to “rewrite history” and “gaslight” Christine.

Janelle wasn’t the only one to support Christine in the showdown as fans were quick to stick up for the star online after the episode aired.

Many said that Robyn and Kody had discussed the situation before and decided what they were going to say to Christine ahead of time.

Reddit user epearson10 wrote on the site: “I think the reason Robyn hopped on the ’that’s a lie’ thing (thinking Christine said something she clearly did not) was because Robyn and Kody already hashed all this out and she had her little script ready to go.

“She was waiting for Christine to say ’the only functional relationship is you and Robyn’ and just shoehorned in her defence, even though Christine never said it.”

Redditor Paivcarol wrote: “Exactly!!! Robyn had prepared that whole speech and was just waiting for an opportunity to spill it out!”

User strawberryblond_cake added: “Robyn was spewing anger and hate at Christine. She seems to resent Christine calling out Kody’s unfair treatment of her. Robyn behaves entitled to the largest share of love, attention, money, time and to always go first and get first pick. She expected to receive all this with no blowback? Expected to be accepted and loved by the replaced/dumped family?”

“The way Kody and Robyn are treating Christine is how cult members treat other members who leave their cult,” posted Trouble_Cleff.
