The announcement comes via a short trailer that shows the new Galar region Pokémon and confirms its typing, ability and that it’s exclusive to Pokémon Sword. Check out the Sirfetch’d trailer for Pokémon Sword and Shield below.

Not much else is revealed about the new Pokémon, but the short trailer does seem to confirm that Sirfetch’d is simply the evolution of Farfetch’d, and not of a Galarian Farfetch’d.

The official description of the new Pokémon goes as follows:

“The Farfetch’d of the Galar region can evolve into Sirfetch’d after experiencing many battles. They are calm and collected, and they make a point of always battling fairly. They are so noble in battle that they are often chosen as a motif for paintings. Of particular note is a painting—famous in the Galar region—that depicts a duel between a Sirfetch’d and an Escavalier.

In battle, Sirfetch’d uses the sharp stalk of its leek as a lance and the thick leaves as a shield. It maintains this leek over the span of many years and treasures it more than anything. When its leek finally withers, Sirfetch’d will leave the battlefield and retire from battling entirely.”

The first part of the trailer shows off the Galarian form of Weezing and the Zigzagoon line, which confirms that Sirfetch’d can only be found in the Galar region.

Sirfetch’d is a pure Fighting-type Pokémon, which changes from Normal and Flying-type Farfetch’d, and has the ability Steadfast. This ability increases the speed stat of Sirfetch’d if it is flinched in battle.

The new Sword and Shield trailer also shows Sirfetch’d using a move where it thrusts its lance at the opponent. This move is called Meteor Assault and is exclusive to Sirfetch’d. It’s a very powerful move, but Sirfetch’d will need a turn to recharge after using.

The typing of the move was not divulged, but we can presume that it will be a Fighting-type attack to give Sirfetch’d a powerful same type attack bonus (STAB) move.

Pokémon fans have waited since Friday, September 13 to learn more about Sirfetch’d. That day, The Pokémon Company teased the reveal of a new Pokémon in Sword and Shield. When fans went to the homepage for the Gen 8 games they were met with a glitched image that had Rotom’s call when it was selected.

Late Monday, this message was sent out to the followers of The Pokémon Company’s accounts, “Trainers, thanks to your reports, we’ve uncovered a technical issue with the announcement of our latest Pokémon discovery. We’ve got our hardest working Pokémon Trainers on the case and hope to have the issue resolved shortly.”

Pokémon Sword and Shield releases November 15 for Nintendo Switch.
