The Post-Gazette’s Dave Molinari reported late Tuesday that the NHL’s MVP will undergo the procedure as early as this week. He is not expected to miss time next season, Molinari reported.

Molinari’s source said that Crosby played with a “terrible” right wrist during the postseason and that “you can’t play the same way” with the type of ailment that afflicted Crosby. It is not clear when the Penguins’ captain was injured.

Crosby had one goal and eight assists in 13 playoff games after scoring 36 times in the regular season to go with a league-high 68 assists.

Molinari reported that Crosby could not be reached for comment. Crosby never admitted during or after the postseason that he was playing injured.
