Crosby and Brandon Dubinsky scrapped during the Blue Jackets’ 2-1 win. Looks like a draw, yeah?
Dubinsky and Crosby have been going at it for a long time; in 2010, while with the Rangers, Dubinsky called Crosby a dirty player , and in 2012, he got annoyed over questions about Crosby’s pending return from concussion issues. That continued into the 2014 playoffs, which continued into Friday night.
So, what triggered the fight (Crosby’s first since the 2012 playoffs)?
“Nothing, really,” Crosby said. “It wasn’t much of a fight.”
Dubinsky expounded a little more.
“I just hit him in the corner. He was trying to pull me down and I was holding on to him We both got up, he dropped his gloves and I dropped mine, obliged,” he said. “He’s a competitor. We know how hard he plays. Any time you get a chance to make a tradeoff with one of the best in the world, I’ll take it, I’ll take him for five in the box.
“He definitely surprised me a little bit. He’s always competed hard. I’ve played against him for eight, nine years now, and he’s one of those guys.”
Dubinsky, naturally, scored the game-winner for Columbus. Pittsburgh dropped to fourth in the Metropolitan Division with the loss and is now 7-11-4 against divisional opponents. Crosby has played in 21 of those games and has 13 points, compared to 45 in 33 against the rest of the league.
